SOUTHERN UTAH ALTITUDE CAMP — HIGH ALTITUDE XC RUNNING CAMP
SOUTHERN UTAH HIGH ALTITUDE CROSS COUNTRY (XC) CAMP SITS 5,700 TO ROUGHLY 11,000 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL AND IS THE BEST IN ALL THE COUNTRY FOR ITS INFORMATION, BEAUTY, WIDE RANGE OF TRAINING ALTITUDES, AND UNBEATABLE PRICE. THE CAMP IS OPEN TO ATHLETES AGES 13 TO 19. THE ATHLETES WILL BE PLACED INTO TRAINING GROUPS ACCORDING TO THEIR ABILITY LEVEL. YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER XC DISTANCE RUNNING CAMP THAT FOCUSES ON INDIVIDUALIZED HELP FOR EACH ATHLETE’S PERSONAL TRAINING GOALS.
THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND HIGH ALTITUDE TRAINING IS THAT IF YOU CAN ACCLIMATE YOUR BODY TO TRAIN AT LEVELS WITH LESS OXYGEN, YOU CAN INCREASE YOUR BODY’S RED BLOOD CELLS. AN INCREASE IN RED BLOOD CELLS INCREASES YOUR BODY’S TOLERANCE TO LACTIC ACID AND KEEPS YOUR HEART RATE LOWER EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE PUSHING YOURSELF HARDER. THIS METHOD OF TRAINING CAN GIVE YOU THE EDGE TO A PERFECT SEASON.
JUST AS IMPORTANT AS TRAINING, THE ATHLETES WILL GAIN VALUABLE INFORMATION CONCERNING NCAA CLEARINGHOUSE, INJURY PREVENTION, NUTRITION, AND HELPFUL TOOLS TO DEAL WITH THE MENTAL GAME OF RUNNING. WHEN NOT TRAINING OR IN WORKSHOPS, ACTIVITIES ARE A BIG PART OF THE ATHLETE’S CAMP EXPERIENCE. THE CAMP ACTIVITIES RANGE FROM MOVIES AND WATER GAMES TO THE TONY AWARD UTAH SHAKESPEAREAN FESTIVAL GREEN SHOW.
THE ANNUAL SOUTHERN UTAH HIGH ALTITUDE RUNNING CAMP IS FOR HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY (XC) AND TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES, AND THE CAMP IS BASED AT THE BRIAN HEAD SKI RESORT (~5,700 TO ~11,000 FEET). THIS IS THE HIGH ALTITUDE RUNNING CAMP AND DISTANCE PROGRAM THAT DEVELOPED SOUTHERN UTAH UNIVERSITY’S TWO-TIME NCAA CHAMPION AND 2012 OLYMPIAN, Cameron Levins.
